Alyson Hannigan was born to Emilie Posner, a real estate agent and Al Hannigan, a truck driver. She is of Jewish and Irish descent. When she was one year old, her parents divorced and she was brought up by her mother in Atlanta. As a kid, she appeared in an Industrial film for ‘Active Parenting’ and also appeared in a commercial for the Duncan Hines cookie mix. In 1985, Alyson moved to Los Angeles in order to pursue her acting career. There, she attended North Hollywood High School and California State University, Northridge.

She made her acting debut in 1988 with a role in sci-fi comedy ‘My Stepmother is an Alien’. In 1989, she appeared in a short lived ABC series ‘Free Spirit’. Her major break was on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a vampire drama, where she portrayed Willow Rosenberg. She subsequently appeared on several notable films such as ‘American Pie’, American Pie 2′, ‘Boys and Girls’, and ‘American Wedding’. She also had a guest role in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s spin-off ‘Angel’.

In 2004, she appeared in the stage adoption of ‘When Harry Met Sally….’. She was next seen in hit comedy series ‘How I Met Your Mother’, portraying Lily. She had a recurring role on ‘Veronica Mars’.

She is married to Alexis Denisof, the man who played Wesley Wyndam Pryce in Buffy & Angel’. They married on October 11, 2003 and are expecting a baby in 2009.

On the hit vampire drama, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Tv Show, she portrayed Willow Rosenberg. Willow is Buffy’s best friend and is the love interest of Alexander ‘Xander’ Harris. She assisted Buffy in her battle against demons, vampires and evil-doers and her mission to spread peace in the world.
